WARM tributes have been paid to two former councillors who have died.

Councillors reflected on the lives of Bob Millard, from Gosport, and Ruth Hyson, from Havant, at a full meeting of Hampshire County Council in Winchester.

Mr Millard was a former chairman of the authority and was headteacher at Bridgemary School. In his 20 years at the authority, he served on more than 60 committees.

He died on July 31, aged 93.

Mrs Hyson was a former Mayor of Havant and served on the council from 1985 to 1997. She died on August 3, aged 73.

Colin Davidovitz, chairman of the council, said: ‘Honorary Alderman Millard was highly regarded by his colleagues – an excellent councillor, dedicated to looking after the interests of his constituents.

‘Ruth started her political career in Havant in the 1970s where she worked tirelessly for her constituents when she took an interest in local community issues.’
