A CONTAMINATED pond will cost more than £100,000 to clear of swan faeces.

Gosport’s council was due to meet today to approve spending £109,000 to clear 100 tonnes of sediment from northern Cockle Pond, Walpole Park.

The chief executive’s report says people feed the swans bread and they cannot digest it, leading to the contamination in the pond.

It is now spreading to the larger southern pond and is the probable cause of a bad smell in summer.

Around £27,000 will be spent on other repairs.
