A CHARITY sending money to a school in Africa has lost £3,000 after the bank it transferred the donations to faces possible liquidation.

The Beattie Children’s Trust, which has a stall in Gosport high street, supports poor, orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya.

It provides a safe and secure place for them to live, be educated and looked after with medical care.

But the last set of donations they sent have been lost after the trust’s bank closed all its branches with the threat of liquidation.

A spokesman from the trust said: ‘Having rushed to the bank to see if the transaction could be stopped, they told us to check at the end of the week to see if they had managed to stop the transfer but unfortunately it did not show up and has not shown since.

‘We have been told that it is unlikely that we will get it back now.

‘This is obviously a massive blow to us and we will have to replace the funds that have been lost.’
