RACHEL EDGE: Brexit sparked young people’s political passions

Have your say

Hello my name is Lewis Mason. I am 17 years old and come from Southbourne, West Sussex.

I attended Bourne Community College for all of my secondary school life. During my time here I managed to gain five GCSE qualifications at grade C and two BTEC level merits.

After leaving my secondary school I moved on to Havant Sixth Form College where I studied a BTEC level 3 sports diploma.

In June this year I completed two weeks’ work experience at The News on the sports desk. During this time I covered a wide range of sports stories ranging from press releases to covering a Hampshire four-day match and writing 250-word piece which then went into the paper. The experience I gained from this time with The News was exceptional and really gave me a feel what it is like in a journalism workplace.

Whilst at work experience I heard about a course that Highbury was offering – this really interested me. I have always been keen on sport and enjoy writing. Putting these together, my ambition has always been to become a sports journalist. My favourite sport is football. I support Portsmouth FC and have had a season ticket for 10 years. Other sports that I enjoy are cricket, tennis and rugby.
