LEAKING oil spraying into an engine caused a boat’s fire alarm to sound.

The Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue sent a lifeboat crew after a call was made to the UK Coastguard at about 3pm yesterday.

It came from a cabin cruiser after the craft’s automated fire alarm system activated as a result of leaking oil spraying on to a hot inboard engine.

The lifeboat crew ensured there was no other damage to the craft and stayed with the vessel for 20 minutes, as the skipper had decided to go on one engine and carry on to Poole.
