A GOSPORT man has died in a head-on car crash.

A passenger in the same car was also seriously injured following the collision, which happened this morning in Beech, near Alton.

The crash, involving a Peugeot 307 and a VW Passat, happened shortly after 7am outside Hillside Nurseries on Basingstoke Road. The Peugeot was heading towards Basingstoke from Alton and the VW was travelling in the opposite direction.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘The driver of the Peugeot, a 25-year-old man from Gosport, died at the scene.

‘The front seat passenger, a man also in his 20s, was injured in the collision and taken to North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke where he is being treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

‘No arrests have been made.’

The two people in the other car did not require medical treatment.

The road was closed until 1.30pm to allow investigators time to examine the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered.

The road has reopened.

Witnesses to the crash should call Sgt Alex Rawdon-Smith at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Fedora.
