And to show his support of the national side, pub landlord Mark Nixon has changed the name of his pub the Three Tuns.

All the time England take part in Euro 2016 in France, the Gosport pub will be called The Three Lions in honour of England’s nickname.

The name-change is part of an initiative being run by lager firm Carlsberg to get people packed into their locals for the Euro 2016 tournament.

All pubs with the word ‘three’ or ‘lions’ were given the chance to take part in the idea.

Mark, 30, said: ‘We decided to change the name of the pub to support England and the Euro 2016 competition.

‘It is also a good way to support pubs and get people watching the game.

‘We always get behind the England squad in the big tournaments and this year is no different.

‘All our regulars love the big games and they are excited by the name-change.

‘They have backed it and are backing the squad, too.’

As well as the name on the outside of the pub, all signage inside will also reflect the name change from the Three Tuns to the Three Lions.

When England exit the tournament, or lift the title, all the material and exclusive glasses will be sold.

Mark, who was the youngest landlord in Gosport when he took over the pub five years ago, added: ‘We will keep the name all the while England are in the tournament.

‘Hopefully that is until the very end. It would be great to see them win it.’

The pub has been kitted out in England flags and its sign had been changed to feature England captain and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, Leicester’s Premier League title winner Jamie Vardy and Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.

The Euros start on Friday, June 10, with England’s first game the following day on Saturday, June 11 against Russia.
