PUPILS at schools across Bridgemary took part in their own Olympic torch relay.

The Schools Olympic Day, held at Bridgemary School, featured pupils from the Bridgemary cluster of schools which included Holbrook Primary, Bedenham Primary, Woodcot Primary, Peel Common Infants and Juniors and Rowner Infants and Juniors.

As part of the day, an Olympic legacy zone was created which saw new outdoor fitness equipment unveiled as well as an Olympic mural, designed by one pupil from each school.

The children carried torches that they had made through the school before their own opening ceremony took place.

Kathryn Heathers, partnership co-ordinator for the Gosport Schools Sports Partnership – part of a government scheme to encourage learning through competition – said: ‘It’s just embedding that enthusiasm into the schools, not just with the Olympics but with being involved in sport.’
