BRAVING the cold January weather, Scouts were excited to try new activities.

Scouts from Gosport joined thousands of other youngsters in a fun weekend away at Gilwell Park’s annual winter camp. The Gosport Scouts went along to the camp, in north-east London, to try abseiling, cooking over a fire and other outdoor activities.

Olivia Whitaker and Will Hosel, both from 6th Gosport Scouts, tested their bravery by tackling the 3G Swing – a 10m high swing where, once winched up, the pin is released and you’re swinging through the air.

Will, 12, said: ‘I was quite nervous as it looked very high and I thought pulling the release chord was going to be quite scary.’

Olivia, 13, added: ‘It was awesome! It was a crazy feeling, just like a rollercoaster. I’m glad I did it. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance.’
