Grant scheme to benefit local voluntary groups

GRANTS of up to £1,000 will be awarded to voluntary groups – and people across Havant borough will decide who gets the cash.

A kitty of more than £30,000 is up for grabs under the scheme, which is run by Community First Havant and East Hampshire and Havant Borough Council.

There will be a series of polls in November and December.

Members of the public will be given the opportunity to hear directly from local voluntary groups before making their vote.

Chief executive of Community First HEH Sue Spencer said: ‘I welcome this opportunity to work in partnership with the council’s community team giving a voice to residents on how the money is spent.

‘A previous pilot conducted in Havant proved just how astute local people are when given the opportunity to make choices for the benefit of their own community.’

Polls take place for Emsworth and Havant on November 22 in The Emsworth Centre, South Street, between 6pm and 8pm. Another voting event is at Waterlooville Community Centre, next to Asda, on November 26 from 6pm-8pm.

For Hayling Island, there will be a poll on November 29 from 6pm to 8pm at the United Reformed Church, Hollow Lane.

For Bedhampton and Leigh Park, votes will be taken at Barncroft School, Park Lane, between 4pm and 6pm on December 5.

Anyone interested in taking part in the voting can call (023) 9241 5556 or email admin@havantccs.org.uk.

To apply for a grant email amanda@havantccs.org.uk or call (07500) 781421.
