Grass blaze in Portchester causes M27 traffic to slow down

Almost three tons of cut grass caught fire in Saxon Close, Portchester at around 12.50pm. The incident is not being treated suspicious.

Officers from Fareham Fire and Rescue were called, and one fire engine and a Land Rover were sent.

The fire crew put out the blaze using a hose from the Land Rover.

A spokesperson said: ‘The biggest problem was the smoke that was drifting across the M27.

‘We had to make sure the traffic in the area had to slow down.

‘We are not treating it as suspicious.’
