‘I’ve ran it in costume before,’ he said. ‘But nothing quite this extreme. I went into a shop and just asked for the most outrageous suit they had and this is what I got.

‘It was very hot and tiring, but the conditions were perfect for running.’

Ryan Goodall and Chris Whalley, both 20 and from Purbrook, ran as Batman and Robin.

Ryan said: ‘We went out to find Halloween costumes and this was what we found.

‘We loved wearing the outfits so we thought about using them for the run.’

Chris added: ‘The atmosphere has been amazing.’

Clare Lyons-Amos, 28, of Seafront, Hayling Island, ran the race dressed as a zebra.

She said: ‘Whoever donated the most money got to pick what I ran as. My boyfriend won and picked a zebra.’
