We are calling on all young designers in Havant.
Making Space has teamed up with the Portsdown Decorative and Fine Arts Society to offer an exciting new award for one budding designer aged 15 to 18 living in the Havant borough.
Any young person keen to develop their skills in crafts, for example textiles, ceramics, glass or jewellery is welcome to apply.
All they need to do is fill out a simple application form and send in some images of their work.
The award winner will receive a free place on one 10-week or one five-week and one beginner Saturday course of their choice from the Making Space programme, which includes a wide range of craft forms.
Plus, the winner will receive a mentoring session with a professional designer-maker who can advise on their portfolio and artwork.
Lynne Dick, the director of Making Space, will also offer a mentoring meeting and a five-day work experience placement at Making Space to give the award-winner the opportunity to work in a professional contemporary visual arts organisation during 2013-14.
This is a very different kind of opportunity, which is ideally suited to someone who shows a particular talent for craft and making things by hand.
We’re interested in how we can support a young person in gaining real experience of the craft sector and in developing new hands-on skills, whether they are at school, college or not in education.
But there’s not much time left, the deadline is very close – July 31 – so apply soon.
