THREE groups in the area have received a slice of £15,000.

The cash came from the Southern Co-operative’s community scheme.

St Faith’s Church in Lee-on-the-Solent got £7,500, the Steam Pinnace 199 project got £5,000 and Crofton Saints Youth Football Club was given £2,500.

George Newell, manager of the Under-16s Lions at Crofton Saints YFC thanked the firm.

He said: ‘We’ll be supplying the team with new kit, which is an expensive purchase, then will plough the remainder back into the football club to help fund equipment.’

Martin Marks from the steam boat group, based in Gosport, added: ‘Its boiler needed retubing which resulted in extra costs being incurred so this donation has saved us.’

Cliff Rook, church warden at St Faith’s added: ‘Our kitchens recently underwent some necessary refurbishment, which this very timely donation will pay for.’
