DOZENS of firefighters from our area have been called out to help tackle a suspected arson attack in woodland in Berkshire.

Crews from across Hampshire – including Fareham and Waterlooville – have been helping to fight the mammoth blaze that broke out in Swinley Forest, near Ascot, on Monday.

The blaze has spread across about 300 hectares of woodland. Last night firefighters from Hampshire and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Services were tackling the fire for the third consecutive day as it carried on burning.

Two youths were yesterday arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the blaze.

Last night no further details about the suspects had been released by Thames Valley Police.
