HAMPSHIRE firefighters will be sporting a new and improved gold-coloured fire kit from today, replacing the previous dark-coloured gear.
Crews will get new helmets, gloves and boots as part of the new uniform.
The kit will be phased into Hampshire’s 51 fire stations, replacing existing stock.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service took the decision to introduce the kit in June 2010 after seven of the fire services in the south east agreed to a joint project in order to create a strong and professional regional identity, ‘while also delivering efficiency savings for each fire service’.
The fire service’s Malcolm Freemantle said: ‘Our main aim is always to provide the best possible equipment for our firefighters.’
