Hampshire’s adoption service is rated ‘good’ by body
ADOPTION services in Hampshire are ‘consistently good’, according to the latest report by government inspectors.
The county council’s adoption service was given an overall good rating by Ofsted inspectors.
It was awarded good judgments in all four areas inspected, including protecting children from harm and neglect, helping children achieve, helping children make a positive contribution and service organisation.
More than 83 per cent of children are placed within 12 months of the time they are considered by the adoption panel to be in need of an adoption place.
Two recommendations for improvement were to ensure assessments of prospective adopters are considered by the panel within eight months of their application and to ensure telephone enquiries are made to verify written references for panel members.
Councillor Roy Perry, who is in charge of children’s services at the county council, said: ‘This good judgement from Ofsted is testimony to the dedicated and highly-qualified team who work hard to achieve the best outcomes for vulnerable children.’
