AN appeal to raise cash for roof repairs on one of the oldest churches in the area is a step closer to its goal.
A fundraiser at St Faith’s Church in West Street, Havant, is thought to have raised hundreds of pounds towards much-needed works.
There has been a church on the spot for more than nine centuries and the knave roof is said to be at least 125 years old.
Parts of the roof have had to be sectioned off after falling into disrepair, with plaster coming down from parts of the ceiling. About £4,250 has been raised for the church’s Repair The Roof Appeal since its launch in August.
It was hoped Saturday’s event would push the total to £4,500. However, committee members say there is some way to go before enough money is raised to complete the repair works.
