IT’S a vital service for people who are struggling to make ends meet.

Now Beacon Food Bank in Havant is holding an event to raise awareness of the organisation.

Last year, the food bank gave out free hampers to people in need in the Havant borough to the value of £7,945.

Beacon Food Bank is run by Portsdown Community Church, which meets at The Beacon in the Meridian Centre.

Community projects manager Ruth Scott said: ‘The food we give away comes purely from donations by the public.

‘Local churches have been particularly active in promoting the need for donations.

‘Every hamper is given freely and without discrimination, judgement or expectation of any return.

‘Each one contains approximately three days or more of food and includes some fresh goods.’

The event takes place between 10am and 2pm on Monday and all are welcome.
