A garden waste collection service will be suspended over the Christmas period.

Havant Borough Council’s service will stop between Monday, December 21 and Friday, January 1, 2016.

However, once the collection service has resumed residents who subscribe can then recycle their Christmas tree by simply chopping them up and putting them into their garden waste bag or wheeled bin.

This will then be ready for the fortnightly collection from their house.

Councillor Tony Briggs, responsible for operational services, said: ‘Subscribing to the garden waste collection service is an easy way for residents to recycle not only their Christmas tree but other garden materials such as grass cuttings, hedge cuttings, prunings and leaves.

‘The service is very popular with over 7000 residents currently subscribing.’

Anyone who is not part of the scheme can recycle their Christmas trees at their nearest household waste recycling centre.
