GAS distribution company Southern Gas Networks. which has a depot in Havant, has been named as one of the country’s top 100 apprenticeship employers by City & Guilds and the National Apprenticeship Service.

The company features in a list compiled annually by the two organisations to recognise excellence in businesses that employ apprentices.

After a tough selection process, the most exceptional apprenticeship employers from all categories went forward to feature in the list.

Southern Gas Networks (SGN), the country’s second largest gas distribution firm, has recruited 300 apprentices and trainees since 2008.

A further 54 young people joined the scheme in September.

The firm’s head of training and development, Neil Snell, said: ‘I’m delighted SGN has been recognised as being among the top 100 apprenticeship employers in the country. It is a reflection of the hard work we have put into developing our apprenticeship programme.

‘One of our core values is to be an inclusive employer, creating a workforce that is proud to work for us, so we prefer to take on full-time employees.’
