Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident on the M27 as a motorcyclist from Havant.

He died in a collision with a lorry near the junction 5 turnoff to Southampton yesterday morning.

The accident led to the closure of the westbound carriageway for several hours.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘A 50-year-old man from Southampton who was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with the collision has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

‘At the current time we are still not in a position to name the deceased, but we can confirm that he is a man in his 40s from the Havant area. A family liaison officer is supporting his family and as soon as we are able to release details, we will.’

Police are continuing to conduct their investigation into the collision, and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who has not yet made contact with officers to please call them.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 101.
