A STAFF member at Havant Academy was treated by paramedics after the umbrella she was carrying was hit by lightning.

The incident occurred at lunchtime today and she was treated by paramedics as a precaution.

She was unhurt in the incident.

A statement on Havant Academy’s Facebook page said: ‘At lunchtime we all heard the loud thunder and lightning.

‘This was alarming for us all. Unfortunately a member of staff’s umbrella was hit by lightning and she is alright and as a precaution she was being checked by paramedics.

‘There has not been any damage to our buildings at all.’
