GREEN-FINGERED residents are being encouraged to use flower power and give the Havant borough an injection of colour.

Gardeners across the Havant area are being urged to sign up to Borough in Bloom, the annual contest organised by Havant Borough Council.

There are certificates to be won in 16 categories, including best balcony, back garden, front garden, hotel, pub, and best allotment.

There are also awards for the best gardening display at a community centre and school.

Winners will be invited to a presentation evening.

The closing date for entries is June 24, with judging taking place between July 4 and 8. Application forms are available at libraries and the Visitor Information Centre in Seafront, Hayling Island.
