A ROW of shops was forced to close after a power cut.

Around 40 premises lost power at about 10am yesterday on one side of London Road, Waterlooville.

Power was restored to most shops, including Poundland, by about 12.30pm.

But some shops, including Greggs and Boots, were without power for the rest of the day.

Last night extra Southern Electric workers were called in and power was expected to be restored by this morning.

The firm said it would work through the night to restore power for the businesses.

A spokesman for Southern Electric said: ‘The power went off a couple of minutes after 10am and the engineers were on site at 10.10am.

‘It was caused by a fault in the underground cable network.

‘Because of the location, we had to wait until the market closed until we could get access to sort out repairs to the cable.

‘We have been doing everything we can to get the cable repaired and get these customers back online.’
