Damage estimated at £100,000 was caused at a sailing club by the Hayling tornado.

The Mengeham Rythe sailing club, off Marine Walk, was one of many properties damaged by a tornado early this morning.

Members of the club arrived to find the boat yard scattered with dingys, debris and yachts.

Mick Rich, who has been a member for 40 years, said: ‘The sight this morning was awful.

‘We had two-tonne yachts that were splayed across the yard and dinghys that have just been destroyed.

‘I think around £100,000 worth of damaged has been caused but people have been really good and have been coming together to help out.’
