GOOD footwear and exercise to aid balance can help to prevent falls among the elderly.

This week is Age UK’s National Falls Awareness Week, and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust is hosting drop-in sessions across Hampshire to give older people the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe on their feet.

The theme this year is feet and footwear, as loose fitting and unsupportive shoes and slippers can increase the risk of a fall, as will walking indoors in socks.

People can find out more information at the following drop-in sessions:

Thursday, June 20, The Square, Emsworth, from 9.30am to midday.

Friday, June 21, Causeway Farm Sheltered Housing, Lyne Place, Horndean, from 10am to midday.
