AN AMBULANCE service has reported more than 100 assaults on its staff in the last year.

Staff working for South East Coast Ambulance Service, which covers West Sussex, reported 111 physical assaults between 2012 and 2013.

Almost 60 per cent of the reported incidents were not the result of medical factors.

Colin Taylor, from the ambulance service, said: ‘We work hard to ensure our staff are not placed at risk but sadly a very small minority behave in a manner which the overwhelming majority of people find unacceptable.’
