A READER has described the legacy of former nurse Audrey Smith to a hospice as ‘marvellous.’
As previously reported, Audrey, 87, left £346,000 for The Rowans Hospice in her will.
The retired nurse, pictured, who lived in Hayling Island, died in February last year.
But her amazing donation only came to light earlier this year.
Alongside being a midwife and a nurse, Audrey was also accepted in Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service.
She served with the force for 10 years, pursuing her career in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Reader Jean Cooper, of Portsmouth, also served in the Royal Air Force, as a medic.
She said: ‘I never knew Audrey, but I think her donation to the hospice is marvellous.
‘And it’s also amazing she served in the airforce for 10 years.
‘What she’s done is marvellous.’
