HOSPITAL staff have been recognised for their efforts to support new mums to breastfeed their babies.

The maternity department at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester has been awarded a Certificate of Commitment by the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative.

The certificate is a recognition of Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust’s determination that all midwives and maternity support workers are trained to give high quality help and support to mothers to enable them to breastfeed for as along as they wish.

Kelly Pierce , senior midwifery manager and public health lead, said: ‘We have listened to local parents and our midwifery staff and all agreed that this was an important priority for the trust.

‘It demonstrates our commitment to ensure all parents feel well-supported, well-informed and confident to breastfeed their baby.’
