A SUMMER gala is being held in a department store to raise money for motor neurone disease charity.

Debenhams in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, is hosting the event in a bid to raise £1,000 for the Portsmouth branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The British-themed bash is due to take place today until 8pm.

People have paid £1 for a ticket to the event, which can still be bought today, and has so far raised £400.

Clare Woolley, beauty supervisor at Debenhams, said: ‘It is fantastic how much we’ve raised so far, but there is still a long way to go if we want to reach the target £1,000 for MNDA. The day will be a great excuse for pampering and getting beauty goodies and advice, while helping a very deserving local cause.’
