MORE than 80 families have come forward since The News ran an appeal for families possibly affected by historical deaths at a hospital.

Bishop James Jones, chairman of the Gosport Independent Panel, extended a thank you to The News, as well as other regional media, for running an appeal.

The panel is looking at the unexpected deaths of dozens of patients in two now defunct rehabilitation wards at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital between the 1980s and the early 2000s.

Bishop Jones said: ‘I’m grateful to the media for engaging with our efforts to raise awareness of the panel’s terms of reference which has resulted in a significant number of new families coming forward.’
