PEOPLE across the area are being urged to remember to donate blood during the winter.

Staff at NHS Blood and Transplant are concerned the weather might put donors off making the trip and are keen to stress there is still a high need for blood.

John Canning, NHSBT’s lead donor relations manager for the south east, is making a special appeal to both existing and new donors to fix a date to donate.

He said: ‘Lots of people are warm to the idea of giving blood but may get put off by the cold weather around this time of the year.

‘However, we can guarantee them a warm welcome at all of our sessions here in Portsmouth and Isle of Wight – plus the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping unwell and injured people in local hospitals with each and every donation they make.’

NHSBT will be collecting donations at Cosham Community Centre, Wootton Street, Cosham, on January 6. Sessions will run from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.
