DEALING with mental health problems can be a challenge.

But residents of a supported living service home, in Foster Road, Gosport, want to say a huge thank you to the team of support workers who are helping them to recover.

The team have been nominated in our Best of Health Awards to recognise the efforts they have put in to help residents.

Mark Davis, 46, has lived in the house in Foster Road for a year, after he suffered from a breakdown.

He said: ‘This is such a wonderful and lovely place. Living here has made me so much more confident and the staff have helped me so much.

‘There are always certain stigmas attached to mental health, but while I’ve been here we get on with things quite independently.’

Health workers at the home work for The You Trust, which provide services to a range of people, including those who have a mental illness and people with a learning disability.

Resident Simon Wilks, 45, said: ‘The staff are great here and really make it feel homely. It actually feels like living with a family.’

The Best of Health Awards, which have 12 categories spanning all sectors of the health service, are our bid to reward unsung heroes working in health.

Nominations have been rolling in – but there’s still time to take part.

The awards culminate on Friday, September 16, with a ceremony in Portsmouth Guildhall.
