STAFF from the You Trust give people with mental health problems confidence – and that’s what makes them deserving winners in our Best of Health awards.

Tina Brown, Andrea Kingswell and Sandra Herbert work as mental health carers at a supported living service home in Foster Road, Gosport.

They were put forward by residents in the Mental Health Worker/Team of the Year category.

And at our celebration evening held at the Guildhall, Portsmouth, they were announced as winners.

Tina said: ‘It’s amazing to have won. We are such a small team and it’s brilliant to know the residents think so much of us.

‘They kept our nomination hidden from us very well, so we were surprised when we were told.

‘We’d like to say thank you them.’

The team were put forward for giving residents much more confidence than they had when they arrived.

Mark Davis, 46, has lived in the house in Foster Road for a year after he suffered from a breakdown. He said the team deserved to win because they make the house a home.

He added: ‘Living here has made me so much more confident and the staff have helped me so much.

‘There are always certain stigmas attached to mental health, but while I’ve been here we get on with things quite independently.’

The You Trust provide services to a range of people, including those who have a mental illness and people with learning disabilities, by giving them assistance to be independent.
