AFTER finding her true love, Lisa Male said she is not ready to lose him.
Lisa, 36, of Totland Road, Cosham, met her partner Gavin Hunnikin, 40, of Barnham in West Sussex, on a dating website.
The couple started speaking in September last year, before meeting in October and hitting it off straight away.
But Gavin was diagnosed with astrocytoma – a brain tumour – 10 years ago.
Despite previously having had two operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, earlier this year he was told his tumour was spreading.
Heart specialist nurse Lisa said: ‘We would desperately like to raise some money to send him to America for the latest treatment, however it costs thousands of pounds – £75,000.
‘What’s encouraging is that people who have had this treatment have come back cured.’
The money raised will pay for a costly gene replacement therapy at the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, USA.
Lisa, who has three children, said: ‘He told me as soon as we met that he had a brain tumour and at that time it was stable and being observed.
‘Literally within a couple of weeks of us meeting he had a repeat MRI scan and the tumour had got worse.
‘He was devastated as was I and he said he wouldn’t hold a grudge if I didn’t want to see him again.
‘I would never be so shallow, and I have actually had one of the happiest years of my life being with him.
‘He’s a very strong and inspirational person and a wonderful partner and dad to his own two children, and he is wonderful with mine.
‘I absolutely love him and truly feel I’ve found my soulmate after all of these years.
‘I’m not ready to lose him yet.’
To help reach their target, the couple have set up a website, so that people can donate money and find out about fundraising events.
Gavin, a trading standards officer, said: ‘I want to see my kids grow up and make sure they’re okay.
‘I’ve met Lisa, who has been so supportive, and I appreciate everything she is doing to help me.’
