Have your say

You don’t have to make an appointment and you can always see your own doctor.

These are just a couple of reasons why Cowplain Family Practice has been named the most recommended doctors’ surgery in England.

An analysis of more than 18,000 comments on the Department of Health-run website, NHS Choices, has revealed that patients are more than happy with the service they get at the surgery, in Padnell Road.

Comments left included:

· The non-appointment system works extremely well so you can see your doctor as soon as your symptoms appear rather than having to wait possibly several days.

· A great example of the NHS actually working in favour of the patients.

· Best practice in the country! On a scale of one to 10 it’s 11.

· Feel lucky to be with this great bastion of the NHS.

All patients of the Cowplain surgery who responded said on the website they would recommend it to a friend and could think of nothing that needed improving.

They praised the friendly staff and said they were always put at ease and involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

Karen Jeffries, the practice manager said: ‘The staff are all so excited about being named the most recommended, and very proud.

‘It’s nice to know patients are happy.

‘The surgery is popular because we are so accessible.

‘We operate differently to other surgeries with the non-appointment system and patients can also see their own doctor each time and so there’s a continuity of care there. Doctors know their patients well here.’

And the Cowplain surgery, which has 8,000 patients, is set to get even better when it moves from its dated premises to its new modern multi-million pound building nearby in the autumn.

Mrs Jeffries said: ‘The building at the moment is very cramped and we only have a little waiting room, so everyone’s looking forward to moving.

‘But even with the building we’re in now, patients are still happy.

‘It shows it’s not all about the premises but more about the service and staff.’
