A DEMOLITION firm has been selected to bring down the remaining parts of the former St Mary’s Hospital building.

Demolition and Salvage Ltd has been awarded the 48-week contract to demolish the redundant sections of the former hospital site, in Milton Road, Milton.

The firm scored 100 per cent when judged against cost, presentation and health and safety and quality benchmarks.

Part of the site is owned by Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which said it would aim to recycle as much material as possible.

The other part has been transformed into a health campus, which opened to the public earlier this month.

Work is now starting to prepare the site with security and welfare facilities being installed, with demolition starting early in the new year.

A dedicated website will also be set up so people can follow the demolition process.

Demolition and Salvage Ltd was hired to demolish the former Joanna’s nightclub site, in South Parade, Southsea, after it burnt down.
