DEMOLITION work has finished at St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth.

The former out-patients’ department has been torn down on the site in Milton.

Contractors started work to flatten the former two-storey building in April, as part of NHS Portsmouth’s plans to transform the hospital into a new £18m community health campus.

The former site of the out-patients’ department will become a car park for the new campus.

Catherine Webster, health campus project manager for NHS Portsmouth, said: ‘The demolition of the old out-patients’ department marks another milestone in the project.

‘The old building was also a bit of an eyesore.

‘Its removal has considerably improved the visual appearance of the site and I’m sure visitors to the hospital have noticed a big difference.’

The new health campus is set to open next year.
