STUDENTS from across the area can find out what it is like to work in a hospital thanks to a new DVD.

Last year, students from Portsmouth College taking the society, health and development diploma, spent the day at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, speaking to staff from a range of medical professions.

The day was filmed and has now been made into a DVD for schools and colleges to use to show students what working in a hospital is like.

Suki Dhesi, head of faculty for social science, science, maths and health care at the college, said: ‘Many students want careers in healthcare but don’t realise it goes beyond nurses, midwives and doctors. Our students were able to understand the vast range of careers in health care first hand.’

Dr Penelope Gordon, director of education at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘We are very keen to do this sort of thing again.

‘We hope the DVD will provide a useful tool for those aspiring to work in some aspect of healthcare.’
