DOCTORS’ surgeries in the city are now offering extended opening hours to patients.
All 27 GP practices in Portsmouth are offering routine appointments outside their core hours of 8am to 6.30pm, Mondays to Fridays.
The times on offer vary from practice to practice and include opening either early one morning, late one evening, Saturday mornings or a combination of choices, depending on what each practice has found best suits their patients.
Carol Giles, head of general practice for NHS Portsmouth, said: ‘We are committed to addressing health inequalities by making it easier for patients to access our services – our GPs fully understand this. They work very hard to provide the best care they can for their patients and they recognise for many people seeing their family doctor during a normal working day can be very difficult.’
