CHRISTMAS has come early for children at The Rowans Hospice after they received a bumper crop of toys.

The Purbrook hospice was given the donation from a drive on ITV’s Daybreak for national hospice charity Help the Hospices.

The breakfast TV show asked viewers to donate toys in Toys R Us stores for the Toy Box appeal throughout mid-November.

The Burrfields Road branch of the store in Portsmouth presented 90 toys to the hospice for its child bereavement Meerkat Service.

Sophie de Bere, Meerkat Service co-ordinator, said: ‘Thank you so much. Christmas can be such a tough time for many of the families we support; these toys will make a positive difference.’

Russell Brown, Toys R Us store manager, said the appeal response was ‘fantastic’.

He said: ‘The response to this appeal has been absolutely fantastic, more successful than we could have dreamed.

‘Thank you to customers and staff who donated all the toys.’
