CAMPAIGNERS were out in force in an effort to protect the NHS.

Shoppers in Commercial Road, Portsmouth were asked to support a petition asking all MPs standing in the general election to do as much as they can to safeguard the service.

Campaign group 38 Degrees organised the petition which asks for parliamentary candidates to:

n Commit to protect the NHS from privatisation.

n Ensure the NHS has the funding it needs.

n Keep the NHS out of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

Sue Mullan, co-ordinator on the day, said: ‘The response from the public has been so good. They really do care about the NHS.’
