a type of sign language used to help those with communication difficulties is being taught in Hampshire.

As part of Learning Disability Awareness Week, community health providers Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, is raising awareness of language programme Makaton.

It uses signs and symbols to help people to communicate.

Claire Cull, regional Makaton tutor for the trust, said: ‘I feel I’m delivering an invaluable service, and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of something which benefits primarily the service user but also the staff and the trust.’

Makaton is primarily used for children and adults with a learning disability.
