A PREVIOUS winner of the Best of Health Awards was so impressed with the notion of celebrating healthcare staff, that her company has become a sponsor.

Donna Wyatt runs Admiral Care in London Road, Hilsea, which supports people in their homes in Portsmouth, Havant and Portchester.

Donna, who scooped the top prize in the Carer of the Year category in 2011, is sponsoring the Mental Health Worker/Team of the Year category.

She said: ‘We are proud sponsors of our category.

‘As a society we need to break down the stigma surrounding this often hidden illness.

‘Mental health issues will affect one in three of us at some stage during our lifetime and acknowledges no barriers, there are many silent sufferers of all ages and from all walks of life.

‘It can be crippling for the individual affected and devastating for the family.

‘We salute the dedicated staff who work in this sector. They make a real difference to people’s lives and in truth, they all deserve an award.

‘Admiral Care frequently comes across the repercussions of mental health issues in the domiciliary care world, it can be particularly cruel to the elderly, many of whom are housebound and already dealing with physical disabilities.

‘We strive to help them remain as independent and comfortable in their own home for as long as possible while offering support and help to the family.’
