QUESTIONS about increased car parking charges at Queen Alexandra Hospital, and how the hospital trust manages its finances were asked at a meeting,
Havant’s Over-50s forum met Peter Mellor, company secretary for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs QA.
Members decided to meet a PHT representative and get more information about the super-hospital, and it was arranged by chairman Pete Walden.
Jackie Bampton, 66, of Mitchell Road, Bedhampton, said the meeting was very beneficial.
She said: ‘As a forum we have issues that we like to discuss, and where possible get a guest speaker to come along.
‘This time we wanted to find out why the hospital keeps increasing its car parking charges, and how the trust pays its massive mortgage.
‘We never realised another company runs the car park, and not the hospital.
‘And it was explained to us how the hospital is run.
‘It was a really good meeting.’
Mr Mellor gave a short talk on the hospital trust, before answering questions put to him.
He said: ‘I told the group about what the trust is doing, and how good we are.
‘We are determined to make QA a world class hospital, as it already has world-renowned clinicians.
‘Questions did come up about finances and the accident and emergency department.
‘Hopefully people understood more how we provide a service, and do not pay for it. There were also personal questions, and problems people had faced.
‘A lot were grateful for the help they had, but there were some problems.
‘We have to make sure these mistakes don’t happen again.’
