A NEW badminton club is set to open its doors in Portsmouth.

Players of all abilities are being urged to take up the sport at The City of Portsmouth Girls’ School, in St Mary’s Road, Fratton, from Thursday, January 5.

A session for beginners will be held from 7.30pm and 9pm and more experienced players are being welcomed from 8.30pm and 10pm each Thursday during term time.

Participants in the later session will get the chance to play doubles games.

The 16-week term runs from January 5 to the end of April.

Racquets can be borrowed and people will be able to get hints and tips on how to improve their skills.

The club will hire out four courts for its players.

Paul Cornborough, of The City of Portsmouth Girls’ School, said: ‘This is a social evening as well as a sporting one.’
