A HARD-hitting new campaign urging people to quit smoking has been welcomed by a senior GP.

Dr Barbara Rushton, chairman of the South Eastern Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group – which pays for health services in the Havant area – praises the advert by Public Health England.

It features a roll-up cigarette full of decaying tissue which gets bigger as a smoker carries on inhaling.

Dr Rushton said: ‘The effects of smoking continue to be a major demand on NHS services and resources, so I welcome any campaign which deters people from potentially starting to smoke – or encourages them to cut down or stop smoking altogether.’
