DOCTOR-led organisations that control health budgets in south east Hampshire are in the running for a national award.

The clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) for Fareham and Gosport, Portsmouth and South Eastern Hampshire – which all operate individually but have united key elements of their work in a joint arrangement called The Compact – have been shortlisted for the Healthcare Financial Management Association Awards 2013.

CCGs started in April.

The Portsmouth CCG has also been shortlisted in two other categories – governance, in partnership with Portsmouth City Council, and efficiency and innovation.

Dr David Chilvers, chairman of the Fareham and Gosport CCG, said: ‘This unified approach makes financial as well as practical sense.’

The awards ceremony is due to be held in London on December 5.
