A HEALTH trust is one step closer to achieving more independence.

Solent NHS Trust has approval by the Board of the NHS Trust Development Authority, a vital milestone in the journey to become foundation trust.

The trust’s application has now been passed on to Monitor, an independent regulator for NHS FTs, for the final application stage with a licence expected to be issued within the next five months.

Chief executive Dr Ros Tolcher said: ‘This is a significant milestone.

‘I have always believed striving to deliver both clinical and business excellence will enable us to deliver the safe, effective and compassionate care we would want for our families.

‘Successful licensing as an FT will enable us to continue providing care across the Solent.’
